ABOUT  AIMT  CLINIC

We appreciate your using our clinic and giving our students the chance to practice the skills they are learning here. Here are some gentle reminders to ensure your AIMT CLINIC session is as enjoyable as possible.

AIMT  IS  A  TRADE  SCHOOL.  WE  ARE  NOT  A  SALON,  SPA  OR  RESORT

The person you will be working with is an uncertified massage student, not a highly skilled professional massage therapist. The AIMT CLINIC is designed for our students to practice the skills learned in class.

CLINIC  SESSIONS  DO  NOT  INCLUDE  DEEP TISSUE

If you require more pressure, our students will comply as much as they safely can. Unfortunately, a therapist can damage their body if they improperly “GO  DEEPER.” Our deep tissue training happens after they successfully complete their clinic hours. This is to maintain the clinic’s focus on Swedish/Western style.

WHAT  TO EXPECT  FROM  YOUR  MASSAGE  SESSION

The massage you will receive at the AIMT CLINIC is a basic Swedish/Western style massage, the intentions of which are:

·           To relax and improve physical and mental well-being. This is accomplished by the long gentle strokes, which increase local circulation and flexibility, relieve muscle tension, and possibly pain, and reduce stress.

·           To improve the delivery of oxygen and nutrients to all your cells and remove the waste produced by those cells’ activity. This is accomplished by the massage strokes, addressing your muscles, tendons, and ligaments.

·           To calm the nervous system and promote the release of feel-good hormones, leading to reduced anxiety and improved mood.

INFORMED  CONSENT

Your massage is known as Swedish/Western. It focuses on relaxation and improving circulation. It involves gentle compressions, gliding, and kneading strokes, from light to medium pressure. Oil is used to reduce friction. Your student therapist will show you to the massage room. Tell your student therapist if there’s any place you don’t want massaged. They will leave to give privacy so you can undress to your level of comfort. You will be draped the entire session for your security and comfort, exposing only the body part being worked on. After undressing, get on the massage table, lie on your stomach (face down) and cover your back with the sheet. The student will knock and ask if you are ready. They will begin the session by massaging your posterior body, asking you to turn over, and then massage the front. When finished, the student will leave the room. You will get dressed and go to the lobby.

CLEANLINESS  STANDARDS

Our students practice standard precautions of cleanliness before and after the session. They wash their hands, forearms, under the fingernails with soap and warm water for at least 20 seconds.

COMMUNICATION

Some of our students are English as second language persons. If you have difficulty communicating with your student therapist, just say “teacher”, and they will find an instructor/administrator to assist in your communication needs.

PLEASE  REFRAIN  FROM  TOUCHING  OUR  STUDENTS.

IF  THEY  FEEL  THE TOUCH  WAS  INAPPROPRIATE  IN  ANY  WAY,

THEY  ARE  INSTRUCTED  TO  IMMEDIATELY  TERMINATE  THE  MASSAGE

AND  NOTIFY  THE  CLINIC  ADMINISTRATOR.
